Windows Server 2008 Installation Instructions
1. Insert CD and press a key to boot from the DVD.
Select the language to use when installing, the time and current format and the keyboard type.

2. Select Install Now to begin your installation. Alternatively, click on the
'What to know before installing windows' link or the
'Repair your computer' link if a previous install went wrong.

3. Enter the Product Key if you have one, you can continue without one but
Windows will be treated as an Evaluation version.
You can also tell it to activate it as soon as the Windows install goes online
(you probably need DHCP).

4. Read the Dialog box warning and click Yes to continue.

5. Select which Edition of Windows to install from the list, tick the box marked
'I have selected the edition of Windows that I purchased'
and click Next.

6. Read the license agreement and tick the box 'I accept the license terms' and click Next.

7. Select whether you want to do a Custom Install or Upgrade (if a previous version was found).

8. Select the disk or partition to install Windows onto.

If you need to do some drive management, click on 'Drive options (advanced)
link. If you need a third party hard
disk controller driver click on 'Load Driver' to load it from CD, USB etc.

9. It will begin installing windows by copying the files from DVD to the hard
disk and then expanding the files on the hard disk. This may take upto
15 minutes to complete.

10. It will then do a restart after installation.

11. It will then continue running setup before starting Windows up.

12. It will then do the Completing Installation part.

13. When Windows loads, it will ask for a complex password for the Administrator account. Click OK to continue.

14. Use a combination of Captial letters, numbers and may be some symbols when entering a password.

15. It will inform you that your password has changed. Click OK to continue.

16. Now you login and then you can configure your server.

a) Check the time zone for your country.
b) Check network settings. By default it will use DHCP, for servers you would
configure a static address.
c) Change the auto-generated compuer name to something more sensible and if
necessary join it to a Windows domain.
d) Enable automatic updating if necessary.
e) Download any new updates that you require.
f) Use the Add roles or Add feature to install additional programs and services
as required.
g) If using Virtual PC, don't forget to install the VPC Additions for
file sharing and audio drivers.
17. Additional stuff for Windows 2008
To get the addional software such as:
* Windows Live Mail
* Messenger
* Photo Gallery
* Writer
* Movie Maker
* Family Safety
Download wlsetup-web.exe from Live Downloads and select and install the additional programs.
18. Wait for installer to start

19. Select the applications to install, then click Install.
